Client profile
The room worked, but was dated and lacked dedicated storage and a purposeful layout. My clients are sociable and home centred in equal measure they had long wished for a welcoming traditional kitchen with modern functionality and storage that was tailored to their lifestyle.
They originally had their small dining table in their and needed to use this as their primary dining space
What they were after was a light airy space that functions for the day to day, provides both kitchen and general storage and also provides dinning space for four without overpowering the space.
Design brief
After our initial design meeting it became apparent that my clients had a passion for their home and loved spending time there both alone and with friends. They told me they felt that the space was disjointed and dominated by the dinning table which dominated the space and prevented easy movement within the space. They also lacked counter space and storage for both kitchen and other household elements.
Statement of intent
I suggested the Caledonia Classic Kintyre Ash kitchen a simple solid wood painted shaker door, in Northern Lights with Porcelain wall units, topped with Quartzform Ocean Arctic worktops and fitted with a full suite of Neff appliances. I used a peninsular unit this provided the dinning space they needed along with the extra counter surface and all important storage without breaking up the room and creating a sense of cohesion. To the far end of the room nearer the door I added utility and larder storage as well as a bespoke floor to ceiling wine rack. The overall intention was a bright fresh airy space that worked hard and was a joy to spend time in reflecting my clients needs and sensibilities.
