Bexlyheath Annexe
Client profile
My client is an active lady in her early 70's.
She has recently downsized to a newly built annex at her daughter’s house in Bexleyheath.She will spend a large proportion of her time in the main house with her family but is keen to have a private space as a source of sanctuary and independence.She occasionally has one or two friends over for an informal supper or afternoon tea as well as her grandchildren who often pop in.
Design brief
The space as mentioned is only for light use and whilst the client wants a fully functioning kitchen, she does not need anything too detailed or complicated it needs an oven, hob, extractor, fridge/freezer and dishwasher as well as basic essential storage. The kitchen needs to be such that my client can confidently cook for herself, occasionally for her 2 grandchildren and for informal super parties.
She would also like a small area to sit with her mid-morning coffee and laptop, if practical, as well as some type of wine storage as she is a keen wine enthusiast. The scheme must be simple, light and kept within the reasonably tight budget.
Statement of intent
I used a simple white entry level door and a quality laminate worktop with simple mid level AEG and Bosch appliances in order to stay within budget. I added a unique and bespoke twist with custom made lights and shelves to add character and personality. Where there is currently stud work to hide service pipes I commissioned a bespoke wine niche to be created and painted to the wall finish to again add a custom element to what might otherwise appear a standard small kitchen.
The layout is simple yet user friendly and ergonomically designed.
A small reduced depth breakfast bar will provide a place for a quiet coffee and as an extra serving space for super parties.
